Introduction:

BPT carry out fast track and highly accurate process studies across all field devlopment stages from concept onwards and throughout life of field operations.

The process design is being optimized already from concept phase by integration of highly accurate equipment design and rating calculations into the process simulator. This takes into account process plant layout, oil/gas production cut/split, energy consumption, CO2 emission, etc.

It also includes dynamic operability studies of plant wide operational issues, including capacity assessment and debottleneck studies.

Finally, dynamic operability studies of sub systems are covered.

BPT also carry out 3rd party verfifications studies. This might be to verify as 3rd party, the work performed by main EPC contractor (or others) or investigate and find solutions to operational challenges for plants in operations.

The following simulator extension Sim-Apps are normally included in such studies:

  • BPT-OLX - Link between OLGA and HYSYS / UniSim / Petro-SIM
  • BPT-PSX - Relief valve design and rating (API compliant)
  • BPT-FSG - Extraction of flare data from process simulator to flare system design tool
  • BPT-CODES - Centrifugal compressor design and simulation
  • BPT-EXT - Excel based data processing and reporting
  • BPT-MWF - Pre-processing of model data (well fluids, GOR, WC and fluid flow rates)
  • BPT-TEX -Turbo expander design and rating (incl. off-design calculations)

Reference use cases:

  • Conceptual green field studies to optimize design across field life
  • Capacity and debottleneck studies
  • Process control philosophy verifications
Benefits and key findings:
  • Earlier availability of compressor and turbo-expander performance maps
  • Improved energy optimization, CO2 intensity optimized
  • Heat exchanger design and requirements improved
  • Scrubber operating requirements better defined
  • Improvements versus system design pressure and temperature
  • Automated line sizing
  • Faster study execution (simulation time reduced and no need for vendor interaction)
  • Avoid overly conservative assessments, that may reduce the business potential of a prospect
  • Avoid early phase simplified assessments, that may later reduce the business potential by requirement for late modifications, or even lost production
