BPT awarded specialist study for FPSO at UKCS

BPT headquarters in Norway reports a new contract awarded by an engineering house for a dynamic simulation study to be performed by BPT domain specialist in process safety and transient tie-in behavior.

“Another offshore production facility benefits from our unique capabilities and decades of experience. Ensuring sufficient and regulatory required safety during operation is undebatable important, where detailed and accurate workflows and simulator software plays a key role”, explains a BPT spokesperson.

The FPSO is currently rebuilt for operation and production at an oil field at the UK Continental Shelf. The detailed study is carried out for a major engineering firm, while the field operator and other suppliers also are involved, ensuring that the BPT study results (predictions of complex multiphase flow transient phenomena that requires multi-discipline expertise) are effectively embedded into the facility redesign.

To perform the study, BPT utilize one of the industry-standard dynamic process simulators for the topside facility and the leading transient multiphase flow simulator for production wells, flowlines and risers. The subsea and topside simulators are interactively linked with the BPT-OLX and other software applications from the BPT-SimApps portfolio (among them the BPT PSX relief valve design and rating application compliant with API 520) are used for efficient, accurate and quality-checked simulation results.

Billington Process Technology (BPT) is an independent digital solution, simulation and service company with Headquarter outside Oslo, Norway. BPT has unique domain knowledge within production and process facilities. We are world-class users of process simulators, and among the specialties are compressor design as well as process safety. The BPT Digital Production Twin includes an unmatched solution for holistic sensor-correction providing invaluable data fundament for a number of advanced digital applications (ala machine learning) as well as calibrated steady-state and dynamic simulators for efficient production optimization. BPT is a frontrunner in modernizing field development approach together with innovating oil companies. A BPT specialty is to apply integrated multiphase flow and dynamic process simulators throughout the field development, commissioning, and life of field to validate and improve design as well as troubleshoot and perform production optimization.
