Control system check-out and operator training simulator for Gas Receiving Facilities in Germany

In January 2023, the Major Gas Company awarded Billington Process Technology a contract for delivery of a control system check-out and Operator Training Simulator (OTS) for a Gas Receiving Facilities in Germany. During these days the simulator delivery project is in its final stage.

“In addition to training of control room and field operators in handling normal and abnormal situations, the advanced simulator is used for improving and validating the new control and safety system before deployment in the gas terminal”, informs Major Gas Company’s Project Manager. “This is the third OTS project BPT carry out for Major Gas Company - we are delighted by BPT’s capability and reliability in timely deliveries of high-fidelity simulators.”

The Gas receiving facilities on the north German coast reduce the pressure of the gas and heat it up. This station delivers gas for further handling towards the German Pipeline System.

The OTS is configured by an integrated team of Major Gas Company, ABB and BPT specialists where the main components are simulator versions of the process control and safety system connected to a specific instructor and field operator station. The training simulator environment is powered by an industry-standard first principal plant-specific dynamic process simulator model with full thermodynamic capacities.

The plant specific OTS will be built on the same methodology and technology as used for other Terminals of the Major Gas Company OTS solutions delivered by BPT.
